What NHI covers

- Essential medicines on the NHI formulary
- Basic laboratory tests and diagnostics
- Antenatal and postnatal care

- Long-term condition reviews for diabetes and hypertension
What NHI does not cover
- Cosmetic procedures
- Private room charges in private facilities
- Care obtained outside the NHI provider network without referral
- Treatment abroad, unless separately approved
Some services outside the package are still provided free or at low cost through public facilities. Ask your provider what applies to you.

Choose a provider
Pick any participating primary care provider near where you live or work.
Bring identification
Bring ID for each household member, and birth certificates for children.
Common questions
- Do I pay anything at the clinic?
- No. Covered services are free at the point of care at your registered provider. You never pay a fee or co-payment for services in the NHI package.
- Can I change provider?
- Yes. You can move to another participating provider. Ask your new provider to transfer your enrolment; your records follow you.
- What if I need a specialist?
- Your primary care provider refers you into the public system. Keep your referral letter and appointment details.
- What if I move district?
- Register with a participating provider in your new district. Tell your previous provider so your record is transferred rather than duplicated.
- Is my information private?
- Yes. Your health information is confidential and only shared with those directly involved in your care, or as required by law.
